Suva, Fiji – A one day symposium for Fiji Agribusiness Exporters is being held this week in Lautoka by the Ministry of Agriculture to gather information on the constraints and challenges faced by exporters.

The Symposium, held at the Waterfront Hotel today, will be attended by stakeholders of the agribusiness supply chain which includes exporters; freight services; custom brokers; Government and its policy makers; the packaging sector; the banking sector and other service providers.

The Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation will be assisting the Fiji Ministry of Agriculture by acting as moderator of the symposium and has been tasked with collating information received from businesses and to submit a report to government on the outcomes.

The Ministry, in its capacity as the lead government agency responsible for the development of the agriculture sector is keen use this information to provide better support to the agribusiness exporters.

Apart from information gathering, the Ministry will be using this symposium as a networking event to build relationships with agribusinesses, map the various roles of all stakeholders in the supply chain and as a platform to voice concerns as well as to enable the government to articulate policy and technical responsibilities.

Information obtained will also assist the Ministry to collaborate better with other Government ministries and development partners in support of agribusiness supply chains.

A second symposium will be held in Suva for Central based exporters on 3rd September 2015.
