Friday 30 November 2018 – Suva, Fiji ~ The Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO) continued its partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) by co-hosting a half-day workshop with the United Nations Office of the High Commission for Human Rights (UNOCHR) focused on Human Rights in Business.
The workshop that was held at the Holiday Inn in Suva, Fiji saw participations from various businesses such as Pacific Power, Value City and Loving Islands, CSOs such as the Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS) and OXFAM as well as Councils like the Women Entrepreneurs Business Council (WEBC) of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF). Also in attendance were Non-governmental organisations (NGO) such as International Labour Organisation (ILO), UNDP and Pacific Disability Forum (PDF).
The workshop included a presentation by UNOCHR on Human Rights issues globally and two working group discussions on the role of Civil Society and Private Sector in protecting human rights and ways to work with local Governments to adopt and develop legislation on human rights.
