PIPSO happy at PBRN Chair inclusion into the Pacific Resilience Taskforce

Tuesday 22^nd May 2018 – The Pacific Private Sector is set to benefit from recent inclusion of Chair of the Pacific Business Resilience Network (PBRN), Mr. Hafiz Khan and President of the South Pacific Engineers Association, Mr. Pratap Singh as members of the Pacific Resilience Partnership (PRP) Taskforce.

 

The PRP Taskforce will be convening their first meeting today at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) in Suva with the 15 members expected to be in attendance to discuss amongst other issues, the individual and collective roles of the task force members, effective implementation of the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific 2017 – 2030 (FDRP) and operationalising the PRP. The meeting will also determine the priorities of the Taskforce and the development of a two-year work plan and budget.

 

This is a progressive step for the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO) as it leverages some of the work of the PBRN which has been carried out by PIPSO. The PRP was established in 2016 as part of the decision by Leaders approving the (FRDP). The PRP will translate the FRDP from policy to action. It will enable different stakeholder groups and communities of practice to undertake actions to support the goal of building resilience to climate change and disasters in the Pacific in support of sustainable development.

 

The Private sector voice was further strengthened Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO) Board Member and Cook Islands Chamber of Commerce President Mr Stephen Lyon by Senior Representative of the Pacific Islands Forum Troika as the Private Sector Representative on the FOC Specialist Sub-Committee of Regionalism (SSCR) in April 2018. The selection of Mr. Lyon as the Private sector representative came after a lengthy selection process whereby nominees were put forward for the four positions and ranked against the required selection criteria for these positions as set out in the SSCR Terms of Reference. This was then followed by telephone interviews conducted by the Forum Troika after which they then presented their preferred selection for the four positions.

 

Mr. Lyon joins Chair, Civil Society Forum of Tonga & Chair, PIANGO Mr. Siotame Drew Havea of Tonga as the CSO Representative, Special Consultant, Office of the President, Mr. Mr. Gerson A. Jackson of the Federated States of Micronesia as the Micronesia Representative and Former Senior Public Servant Chartered Accountant & Consultant Ms. Esther Lameko Poutoa of Samoa as the Polynesia representative.
